Yelp’s Culinary Connection is a month-long event series featuring businesses who have made an impact on Rochester’s evolving food scene. These exclusive and intimate events are a platform for local chefs and restaurant owners to share their story — how they got their start, what inspires their menu, and why they do what they do for our community, along with curated tastings.
Our second Yelp’s Culinary Connection event brought the Yelp Rochester community to Atlas Eats, where the menu takes you on a trip around the globe. The 24-seat restaurant is owned by husband and wife duo Gerry and Diane Brinkman with Gerry serving as executive chef and daughter, Anna, as chef de cuisine.
As a means of highlighting their close knit vibe and commitment to handcrafted dishes, a variety of demonstration stations were presented to the Yelpers. They witnessed the care that goes into ganache glazing, bread kneading, and how to make homemade ricotta and sausage. Guests also had the chance to ride their pasta pony (aka pasta extruder) and make tagliatelle. With ease, Gerry’s sisters showed how they hand-roll cavatelli for the weekly lunch menu! Guests were in awe of their ability to integrate family traditions with consistent creativity in their menus.
Q: How do you seamlessly shift from country to country with the rotating Edible Atlas dinners?
A: Once you look at something authentic and see the spirit of a dish, you can really create anything in that same spirit. – Gerry Brinkman, executive chef
